Graduate of McAuley High School 1976, Cincinnati, Ohio
I’m running for my second term as Ft. Thomas Independent Schools Board of Education to continue positive leadership for our students future, and the vision we have for our District moving forward. By this I mean, making decisions to give our education team (administration and teachers) the support they need to educate our students for their future in the 21 Century. Giving back to the community, as well as, being good steward for the residents and student of Ft. Thomas, is my utmost responsibility.
My experience makes me an excellent candidate for Ft. Thomas School Board. I was appointed the school board in January 2012 by then Commissioner Terry Holliday. Prior to my board service, I was a School Based Decision Making (SBDM) Council member for Ruth Moyer Elementary (one year), Highlands Middle School (four years), Highlands High School (4 years). Through my service on these school governing boards, I understand how our students are educated throughout our District by making curriculum decisions. I was also actively involved in elementary PTO by serving on its board, as well as President. I was actively involved in High school PTO, also. The last seven years, my experience as a sitting School Board member, has afforded me the opportunity to make decisions which lead to Ft. Thomas Independent Schools to be consistently ranked as one of the highest performing districts in the State of Kentucky.

I appreciate the community has entrusted me through several terms to lead the educational experience of their most valuable assets; their children. I don't take that for granted.
In cooperation with other board members, citizens, students and staff we have reached historic goals in my tenure as a Fort Thomas School Board member. Through selfless, tireless, cooperative teamwork we have, built a new Highlands Middle School, Completely renovated Highlands High School, built a new Woodfill Elementary School, completely renovated Highlands High School Gymnasium, built a new state of the art field house facility, completely renovated and built new addition to Moyer Elementary School, secured funding and received approval to construct a new Johnson Elementary (Fall 2018), upgraded off site sports facilities for soccer, track, baseball and softball, aligned the curriculum across the district, improved communication and community relations with city leadership and stakeholders. We have accomplished a lot but there is more to be done. I look forward to continuing my work with fellow board members, incredible staff and passionate community on exciting, forward thinking projects currently in the works.
Fort Thomas and Fort Thomas Schools are a unique and special place. We are fortunate to have such a competent, passionate, involved community.
My wife, Nikki (Roberts), and I are lifelong residents of Fort Thomas. We both graduated from Highlands High School and we've graduated all four of our daughters from there (Mackenzie, Madison, Macy, Meg). I've been a Fort Thomas business owner for 30 years. We are vested in the community and well aware of the part our community schools play in the vitality of our city.
The board and staff are in the midst of exciting, innovative, collaborative projects that will expose our students to real world, entrepreneurial experiences. A true project based learning environment incorporating business, industry and educational leaders in the instructional learning process. This is a passion of mine and I've been involved in this project since inception. I want to see the job through.
We have one more school facility project to undertake, Johnson Elementary. I've been a part of the leadership team on all 6 of our other projects and I'm compelled to finish this job as well.
I am the experienced candidate. My years of effective board leadership are proof of my ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively to accomplish goals and objectives in line with our mission and vision.
My experience in real estate appraisal and consulting have proved beneficial in addressing the nuances of our projects; keeping them on time, on budget and ensuring they fit architecturally with our unique community. I've led negotiations with city leadership and developers for PILOT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) payments to replace revenue otherwise lost through bond agreements.
I am never satisfied with the status quo. We have incredibly knowledgeable citizens and staff. I will continue to elicit their greatness and work collaboratively to provide a state of the art, exceptional learning environment with individualized opportunities for all of our students.

Fort Thomas Independent Schools are a very important part of what makes the City of Fort Thomas such a wonderful community. I am running for re-election to the school board to continue the excellent work and traditions that have been established by the staff and children of the district. The Board of Education, with the help of the community and support from our education foundation, has made great strides in facility improvements and worked toward creating a safe learning environment. I want to continue to be part of those plans. The administrative and teaching staff have adapted to an ever changing learning environment to prepare our kids for their futures. I want to continue to be of that process.
As a life long resident of Fort Thomas and a graduate of Highlands High School, I know the value that the schools bring to our community. My wife Tonya, myself, and my four children that have all benefited from the excellent education that Fort Thomas Schools provide. My youngest son is still enrolled and continues to grow under the excellent guidance of the staff at HHS. I want that for all the kids of Fort Thomas. I will continue to work hard to make sure that all the kids of our community get the opportunities and experiences that the Fort Thomas Independent Schools have always delivered.
