In your opinion, what are the city's top three challenges? How would you address each of these issues?

The drought has affected communities throughout the Valley, especially those that depend on agriculture. What steps, if any, should the city take to diversify its economy? What steps would you propose?

Gangs have committed crimes and taken lives in communities throughout the Valley. What strategies would you propose the city undertake to keep kids away from gangs, and to help those in gangs give up the gang life?

Why are you the best candidate to serve on the city council? (Text or YouTube video.)

1-Water for jobs-It's not just about conservation, it's about legislation and getting our local, state and federal reps OF ALL PARITES to do their jobs and get bills and measures passed to represent us as a whole state in crisis, not just a portion of a state in crisis!

2-Public Safety-Make sure we keep our Police Dept. adequately funded in order to keep our city, it's residents, families along with our business owners safe, so that people will desire to locate to Mendota to live, prosper and conduct business!

3-Beautification-Enforce municipal codes on all property owners, residential, commercial and industrial if need be. Not only does people want a safe community to live in, but also a community that they can be proud of when people drive through it or visit it.
The first step the city should take is to seek out, secure and create new jobs apart from the agricultural based employment that we have depended on in the past, because state and federal agencies along with our representatives have pretty made up their minds that they are not going to give us any water regardless of rainfall or snow pack. If elected, I would seek out alternative sources of funding to purchase property to create an industrial park warehousing similar to that which Northwest Madera and Southwest Fresno possesses, which could house various types of business's, while creating several jobs, as well as an alternative sales taxes base!
First of all, I am thankful for our Police Dept. and those who serve our community, those who put themselves at risk everyday to keep our city and it's residents safe from drugs, gang activity, domestic violence and everything else they do to assure our safety each and every day! Second of all, I am thankful for the officers of the past under the leadership of Chief Jerry Galvan, who is now retired, but at the time he helped put a dent in the gang problem we had in the beginning years of our department, while he was in charge. I know currently at this time the leadership has a pretty good grip on the gang activity! Now as far as discouraging kids away from gangs, a lot of the discouragement towards that type of life starts at home with the parents, and them being aware of who their kids are establishing relationships with, both good and bad, because it only takes one bad influence at the right time in a young persons life to convince them to give that type of life a try! But the city also could partner up with local faith based organizations, as well as with the non-profit that exists in the city currently, along the Mendota School District, County or State Gang and Drug prevention programs and organizations. But the best answer and solution that I know of to these types of lifestyles and problems, is the Lord Jesus Christ, who is thee only answer and deliverer from all types of dangerous and harmful lifestyles.
I am well qualified from 2 terms on the city council, and all that was accomplished. For example: the re-establishing of the Police Department which was non-existent for almost 20 years. Balanced the city budget all 8 years with funds left over. Total Re-furbished Pierce-Rojas park from landscaping, to restrooms, water park, baseball diamond and an amphitheater-type stage and dance floor. We purchased property on 9th and Marie St. and turned that into our new Public works yard, and we purchased heavy equipment to place in that yard. Completed various road projects on both the West and East sides of the community, we had very little, if any employee turnover, we had a good strong city manager in Gabe Gonzales, who took our direction and made things happen. I am a clear thinker, I don't give into the pressures or opinions of others, my decisions are based on the facts and my convictions for what is best for the community, not what's best for certain interests groups. I am a pastor and I have led my congregation with the God given wisdom, insight and abilities that He has provided for 11 years and I know that I can lead this city in a positive direction. I only make 1 promise, and that is to be your voice, that I do promise and will do on your behalf as I work with my fellow colleagues on making Mendota a great place to live, prosper and succeed. Vote for John Flores for a better Mendota. Thank you!
