Candidate Biography (submitted by candidate): Danielle Adams is currently the youngest elected official in Durham County.
During her term she has received numerous awards including the 2012 Outstanding District Supervisor of the Year award from the NC Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts and Spectacular Magazine’s “Emerging Leader: Woman of the Year” award.
Danielle is pursuing a Masters degree from Appalachian State University where she served as the Alternative Transportation Project Manager in the Office of Sustainability.
She serves on the Board of Directors for the Upper Neuse River Basin Association, as an ambassador to Oxfam America’s Sisters on the Planet program. She received a BA in Political Science from NCCU.
Candidate Statement: It has been an honor to serve the citizens of Durham these last four years. During this time we have faced the Falls and Jordan Lake Watershed Rules, 751 South, fracking, increasing urban flooding and runoff, and decreasing productive agricultural land. Despite all of these challenges the Durham District remains one of the strongest in the state.
I am proud of being named the 2012 NC Soil and Water Conservation District Supervisor of the Year and stay encouraged to move the District forward by enhancing our relationships with the City and County, the School Board, and our State and Federal partners.
I am passionate about improving our environmental education programs by my continued efforts with our Resource Conservation Workshop and by involving university students through an internship program. I will continue to support urban conservation practices like a unified watershed ordinance and our future green roof project.
My goal continues to be to advocate for statewide policies that protect all of our home and landowners, moving the State Association forward into a new generation of environmental and conservation stewardship, and to continue to make the Durham District a state and national standard in best management practices.
