My top priority is public education. It is essential that we provide for the educational needs of our children to prepare them for the economy of the future. We must find ways to make essential healthcare services available and affordable to all.
A reasonable minimum wage and pay equity are essential for the dignity and fair treatment of all workers. The State should play a role in guaranteeing both.
An independent, non-partisan commission should determine district boundaries, without consideration of the race or political affiliation of the voters. Districts should be compact and should respect natural and community boundaries.
Adequate numbers of school nurses, counselors, and social workers should be provided to allow teachers to concentrate on teaching. Educators should have input in decisions affecting kids' education.
Municipalities should have the ability to create such review boards when they deem them necessary.
The risk to coastal industry and tourism outweighs any potential benefits of off-shore drilling.
