Experience (35 words max) Currently serving as Chair of the Wake County Board of Commissioners
Education, the Economy and Jobs, and Affordable Housing
I created and chaired Wake County's first ever Affordable Housing Steering Committee which led to the approval of a 20-Year Affordable Housing Plan. You can learn more here - http://www.wakegov.com/humanservices/housing/Pages/Housing-Plan.aspx.
I led the implementation of Wake County's first ever Fair Chance Hiring Ordinance and Paid Parental Leave Policy. I have also supported nondiscrimination policies that ensure equal treatment for all Wake County Government employees.
The Board of Commissioners does not currently have any collaboration with federal immigration enforcement nor would I support any effort to discriminate against anyone. Our board has expressed concerns on the record regarding 287g and Trump era policies that have led to the separation of families.
Sheriffs are duly elected officials in NC. Boards of Commissioners are responsible for funding but do not have any day to day oversight over the Sheriff's Office. Our Sheriff is up for re-election this Fall and as with all elections, voters should be informed and vote accordingly.
