Experience (35 words max) I am a National Board Certified Teacher with 3 Master's degrees in education and 28 years teaching and counseling experience.
My top three priorities are to enable county-wide pre-kindergarten, to implement a sensible school safety protocol, and to help our incredible teachers make decisions about 21st century curriculum, methods, and best practices.
The key to success is to facilitate more parental and community involvement. Right now, our county has students whose families are fearful of attending school events and we need to create a welcoming environment.
Arming teachers would be an added layer of danger for our students and staff.
Experience (35 words max) 3 kids currently attending HCPS system; personally attended HCPS for 13 years and our family business was started in Henderson County in 1972.
3 favorite endorsements for this election Non-partisan, haven't seeked out endorsements.
1 - Complete the HHS project that has stalled. 2 - Complete and adhere to a schedule for overall Capital Improvements for all schools in Henderson County. 3 - Create reward, incentive, and personal improvement plans designed to keep and retain teachers.
Additional policies should not be needed. HCPS should educate all students, even undocumented, that's the law now. (ESL) and Dual Language programs should be instituted at more if not all schools to help.
I believe teachers have enough responsibility without having to perform ongoing firearms training.
Experience (35 words max) I have been on the Board of Education for 8 years and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I have made some great relationships in the community and worked hard for the advancement of HCPS.
The capital and safety assessment on all of our school buildings. Bringing on full time SRO’s for every school in our district along with making each school single point access to everyone visiting our campuses, and finalizing building design for HHS.
We have strict policies regarding undocumented students, they are federally and locally protected. We also have strict local policies for discrimination against anyone. We have just rewritten all of these policies.
We have an assistant principal who is an ex policeman, he would be someone I would consider.
