Experience (35 words max) Motivated to run for County Commission after working for a non-profit that helped people with a criminal record find employment. Active Democrat with decades of leadership experience.
a. Work with the city and towns to provide housing for our lowest income neighbors earning 30% AMI. b. Work to improve relationship with CMS.
I advocated for 30% AMI housing when the county recently hired a developer for land that we own near the government center. The vote was 8 to 1, so it failed.
We support companies moving here with incentives. We set an example with a diverse staff and competitive pay.
The county does not collaborate with federal immigration.
This is up to the legislature as they have made the Sheriff (not a department of the County) report directly to the voters.
Experience (35 words max) County Commissioner At Large since 2012 ** Attorney at Law for 26 years ** Served on board of directors for several community organizations
3 favorite endorsements for this election Charlotte-Mecklenburg Association of Educators
(1) Ensuring economic opportunity for all; (2) Education, especially early childhood education; and (3) Affordable Housing
We should continue to incorporate into our development plans affordable housing components, just like we've done with the Brooklyn Village project. Also, we need to expand housing assistance to the homeless.
We need to ensure that people who complete workforce training programs are able to get and keep permanent jobs. The county should provide wraparound services to support these workers in remaining employed.
I oppose the 287g program, and I do not believe the county should facilitate indiscriminate enforcement that tears families apart.
The Sheriff is an elected official directly answerable to the people. By virtue of the county's fiscal relationship with the Sheriff's Office, we can ensure monetary transparency and accountability.
