Experience (35 words max) I have served 8 years in the NC Senate as Deputy Minority Leader and have served on most of the major committees, with considerable expertise in areas of health and education. I serve 10 years on the UNC Board of Governors
3 favorite endorsements for this election NC League of Conservation Voters; NCAE; AFL-CIO
I am continually concerned about the expansion of Medicaid for the 500,000 individuals without health care in our state and I will work to implement a plan. I will also work to increase the level of funding for education, including facilities and teacher pay.
Absolutely, the NC legislature should take the lead in a plan/law to raise the minimum wage and promote pay equity; and promote the same with local governments and businesses to follow suit.
Citizens are clear that the Redistricting process must be nonpartisan, independent and inclusive. I support the legislature appointing an independent commission, who will develop a plan according to population
We must again have sound preschool and early childhood development programs as keys to children entering school ready to succeed. We must fund these, social workers and TAs to address children's needs.
I support a carefully constructed p-c review boards with accountability to citizens and council.
We must protect NC waters; and research the impact drilling has on our water and environment.
