The legislature is taking our state in the wrong direction. Instead of making investments to help us compete, it is attempting to reshape our democracy. I will increase support for public schools and fight to protect our democratic institutions.
I support increasing the minimum wage to help increase financial stability for more families. I also support promoting fair and equitable pay across race and gender for the same job.
I support creating an independent redistricting commission. Elections should be conducted in fair, impartial districts. Gerrymandering by both parties created a dysfunctional state legislature. We need a functioning democracy.
We must increase support for our teachers, support staff and school facilities. We must increase per pupil spending with an eye toward innovation to close the gap in low performing schools.
We should empower municipalities to create or strengthen boards to promote transparency, accountability and trust.
I do not support off-shore drilling for North Carolina. We must protect our coastal waters.
