Parent involvement which will provide parents with the knowledge/understanding of the teacher's goals/ objectives. School Safety Initiatives to provide resources about violence and bullying prevention. Both topics will strengthen PCS and enhance learning capabilities.
On March 7, 2016 Equal Educational Opportunities Policy Code 4001 was adopted. Affirmed by the Board. After reading them, re-enforcement of these policies across the board should lower discrimination accusations.
Being armed with knowledge, resources, transparency, interventions, Code of Ethics works best.
Experience (35 words max) I have worked in the public school system for the past fifteen years with my first five in high school. I also have two sons in the Pitt County public school system.
I just want to be able to make a difference in any way that counts. I want to be a voice for my children and for that matter all children of Pitt County public schools. One of my main concerns is school safety.
I don't have any experience in dealing with undocumented students. As a teacher, I have never known if my students were undocumented. I would hope that I will learn more about this situation as a board member in order to make any decisions.
I feel that if a teacher wants to be trained to carry in the classroom then they should be allowed.
Experience (35 words max) I have worked in education for over 20 years. I hold a MA in Human Services and a BS in Business Education. I am currently the Program Administrator for the Antioch DPAP Afterschool Program.

To improve the out of school suspension rate with support of programs to identify and redirect disruptive behaviors of at risk youth. To seek more ways to educate school staff on cultural sensitivity in their interactions with at risk youth.
Schools should know and comply with state laws on undocumented students and others who face possible discrimination and ensure their safety by not requiring them to provide more than the necessary documentation to support public school enrollment.
I do not support allowing trained teachers to be armed in classrooms.
