What are your top 2 or 3 priorities for action on the Board of Education? (40 words maximum)

What policies, if any, are needed to ensure equal access to learning for undocumented students and other students who face possible discrimination from students, school personnel, or others? (30 words maximum)

Explain your position on allowing trained teachers to be armed in classrooms. (briefly respond in 15 words maximum)

Experience (35 words max) I currently have two children enrolled in the CabCo. School System. Have years of experience with policy creation, multiple board memberships and offer a current perspective to what is happening in the school system.
1. Fix the budget and spend money more appropriate throughout the county not just specific areas 2. Stop the endless testing and let teachers teach 3. Provide more transparency to the community regarding the school system and county decisions and discussions
Policies are currently in place for equal education for all children. If that is not being followed, there are processes in place to report that to school administrators.
We have SROs and should continue to utilize them. We need to provide them based on number of kids.
Experience (35 words max) Professional experience includes thirty years serving clients in variety of industries. Community service includes service on boards of nine nonprofit organizations for a cumulative total of over fifty years.
3 favorite endorsements for this election Theresa Drew, Managing Partner of Carolinas practice of Deloitte (my employer); John Tate, Former member of the North Carolina State Board of Education; Richard Vinroot, Former Mayor of Charlotte, Past Candidate for NC Governor
Focusing on financial/ budgetary matters to ensure efficient use of financial resources;

Maximizing retention of high performing teachers;

Increasing career and technical education opportunities in the system for students not planning to attend college
The system is responsible for providing a safe environment that is conducive to the positive education experience for all enrolled students. Immigration policy is the responsibility of the federal government.
Teachers should be appropriately trained and registered in some manner with local law enforcement.
Experience (35 words max) 46 Years Accounting/Business; 11 years School Board member; 12 years on Cabarrus County Board of Commissioners; 18 years Cabarrus Health Board; 10 years Cabarrus County Fair Board; 15 years Cabarrus County JCPC;
Keep our schools safe for our students and staff. The next issue that needs to be addressed would be good communication with teachers, parents, and families. We must pay all our teachers better pay also bus drivers which we have a very hard time in obtaining.
I`m convinced our system does an outstanding job giving equal access to ALL our students. All our students are given the same educational experience and opportunities.

Experience (35 words max) Elected to the Cabarrus County BOE in 2004, re-elected in 2008, serving as vice-chair and board chair and my knowledge and experience as a licensed General Contractor who has worked with and understands school construction.
(1) Providing 21st century tools, resources and technology for our children to be competitive and successful (2) Increased school campus and student safety (3) Update and reinstate the school Construction Standards to ensure efficient use of our tax payers dollars
There are policies in place which address these issues from the federal, state and local levels. However, there needs to be clear interpretation, comprehensive training, more reporting and better enforcement.
For many reasons I do not support teachers (even trained) being armed in the classroom.

Experience (35 words max) Doctorate in Community Advocacy and Justice Ministry, Middle and Secondary Substitute Teacher, Local Church Pastor, Certified Leader (UNCC PILOT Program), Graduate Certificate in Teaching (NC State University)
1) Increasing Teacher Pay. 2) Reforming End of Course testing policy to give teachers the flexibility to run their classroom. 3) Providing adequate support to every school in the district, in terms of technology, supplies, and personnel resources.
While immigration policy is a legislative matter, when elected, I will ensure that Administrators use fair discipline and support anti-bullying, and that all teachers are trained to teach English Language Learners.
I do not support teachers being armed, but rather the addition of safety personnel and resources.
Experience (35 words max) Lifelong resident of Cabarrus County and retired educator of 35 years. Looking to continue my journey with passion for children and the greater school community.
One of my priorities in Cabarrus County is growth and having adequate space for students without doing a lot of redistricting. At the same time, I want all of our schools to be safe with supporting more mental health positions and School Resource Officers.
As a retired school counselor, I know that Cabarrus County values all students and have a lot of resources in place to meet individual needs of all children. Teachers are professionals and advocate for all students.
Teachers want to teach, so therefore we need more Resource Officers in our schools who are trained.

Experience (35 words max) 17 years as a Teacher, Coach, Administrator, 4 years as board member, husband and father of 4 CCS students
Implement policies that allow teacher the freedom to teach students effectively without interference from a number of sources. Remove wasteful spending from the budget so more of the tax payer's money will make it to the teachers and students.

CCS does a good job of holding parents accountable for enrolling their child in the appropriate school based on where they live within the district.
I would welcome that discussion and many teachers would as well.
Experience (35 words max) 30+ years with IBM, 20 of which were in procurement. Coaching youth for 25 years; Residential construction 18 years; Business owner 2 years; Club President 8 years; Team Leader; Team Builder; Problem Solver
1) Make sure students are safe in our schools. 2) Assure that the parents have a voice. 3) Assure the "ALL" students are prepared for post graduation, whether college is in their future or not. I want to see each and every student graduate with a positive outlook.
We need to have consequences. Every student is a name not a race or color. Possibly a class in MS and again in HS that teaches awareness and sensitivity.
I do not think it is a good idea. It would create yet another variable for potential problems.
