Burke has the most affordable housing between Asheville, Charlotte, and Winston-Salem. The problem is a housing shortage. The County needs skilled-trade entrepreneurs to capitalize in an open market.
Employers and entrepreneurs need skilled/educated workers. They need sound business infrastructure and local support. Start with my answers to question #1 to build a roadmap to a sound future.
County Commissioners are public officers and are to uphold the Constitution and Federal and State Laws. Federal immigration enforcement must be fully funded at the federal level.
The Sheriff's Department regularly reports to and is accountable to the county. Transparency hasn't been presented as a problem to me by any citizen. Asking yields results.
Experience (35 words max) 30 + Years in Radio & TV. 12 years Owner of a Tractor and Equipment dealership and hobby farmed for 50+years. Served 6 years on School Board and 16 years as a County Commissioner.
Continue Good and Necessary Government at a fair and reasonable cost to the taxpayer. Collaborate with other entities to offer incentives to bring higher paying jobs to the County. Educate and train through High School & Community College for higher paying future jobs.
Partner with private, local, state, and federal entities to produce needed housing. Provide incentives where and when it is doable and feasible. Utilize “Grants” when available to aid low income families.
It’s predicted that 30-40% of present jobs will be performed by Robots by 2030. Education and training skills to perform the new high-tech jobs must happen before the higher paying jobs come.
The two biggest reasons we can’t balance the budget is Debt & the Cost of immigration. The laws are already on the books to correct these. We would have the biggest economic boost ever if we just enforced them!
The Sheriff is an elected position. However, all expenses, purchases and payroll are paid by the County. To get paid, there must be a bonified receipt, so accountability is good.
